So I've been wanting to get my first tattoo for awhile. I know I want it on the same place where Drew has her cross, on her lower right leg. And I love her cross, but I don't want the same tattoo. But I do want it to be the same size. I just don't know what I want the tattoo of!? I'm very open to any ideas. Things that you've seen that you liked, or just heard of, might help me in some way. Lately, I've been looking at butterfly and flower tattoos. But I don't want anything too "girly" ya know? I saw this one tattoo online that had a butterfly, a flower, and a small cross neatly joined together. I wish I could find that picture again. I really liked it. Anyway, I have been putting on temporary tattoos on my lower right leg. Right now I am sporting an evil dragon thing. It looks cool and bad@ss (not sure if i can say that?). aaahhhh!! I wish I just knew what I wanted.
So any thoughts? Ideas? Opinions? Anything at all? |

Drews leg tattoos - the crosses and that Butterfly on her stomach are iconic. If you found a design with a butterfly flower and cross that would be very Drew of you.
Give Tom a PM http://www.drewbarrymore.com/index.php?showuser=5- He's probably busy working on a tunnel to Kate Beckinsales dressing room at the moment but he gives great advice and is one of the most generous people on the planet. I seem to remember him doing a beautiful butterfly design for someone on the Drew Barrymore Collective. |

Awesome, thanks! I just sent him a message.
Ha that would be a very Drew of me. I love her tattoos, it's hard not to want to copy them. But because I don't want to copy her, I don't think I'll go for a cross and a butterfly. ...ehh but maybe I will. I don't know. I'm on the fence. lol |

PamPunisher, you have to get something that means something to you PERSONALLY.
about your life, where you've been, where you want to go, something to remind your spirit of your inner most self. (butterflies are good) haha |

Thats good advice Christine, thats close to what I told her ,,,,,, "and" I also told her that sometimes you just might see a really cool picture of something that means absolutely nothing to you, BUT it will make a great tattoo. Sometimes it might be serious or just quirky & funny. What ever you get for a tattoo make it fun, and get something you think you will like twenty years after it is done.
Have fun with getting tattooed, it doesn't always have to be so serious or have deep meaning. |

To be honest, I'm not ever worried about liking the tattoo in twenty years, haha. If that happens, then oh well. I'll just get a new tattoo.

You'll have to forgive me - I like to try and tell a good sea story - but I may ramble on a bit.
19 years ago - I got my first tattoo on my right calf and I still like it even though it has faded a bit but I have fond memories of getting it. So make sure you have fun getting your tattoo once you figure out what it is you want because the experience of getting a Tattoo can be fun even if painful. My Ship (the USS Fox CG-33) pulled into Portland Oregon for what has been my all time favorite Port Visit. We navigated all the way up the Columbia river and moored down town next to the quay wall for the Rose Festival in 1990. A lady friend who I had just met and I took a cab to "the Sea Tramp" And after looking at the tattoo books for over an hour while she had a climbing panther added onto her derriere - I selected a symbol from the realm of Neptunus Rex. It was on a card in my wallet which said that I had survived traversing through his realm. The Artist did a fantastic job of taking the little tiny image and blowing it up to the right size and then traced it onto my leg and went through at least five colors laying it in. The colors were so vibrant back then I'll never forget it. We then proceeded to the Gay bar where we watched Drag Queens impersonating Tina Turner sing. It was quite the night. So make sure you have fun. Make it a night you'll want to remember - because you will. |

So, to keep y'all posted, I've been thinking about the winged lion for a tattoo. It is sooo beautiful. And not only am I a Leo, but the lion symbolizes boldness and courage and those are attributes I don't have a lot of and I'm striving to get. Plus, the wings make me think of Guardian Angels and spirituality. And I've heard that if the winged lion has an open book then that means "peace." and if the book is closed than that means "war." So maybe if I'm bored I could add a little open book to it one day. |

A Winged Lion would be a very cool tattoo.
Pam, it reminds me of Venice, Italy. Have you been to the Piazza San Marco? Christmas 1996 - Another Ship I was on, the USS Pensacola LSD-38, spent five days in port Venice. I had thought the Winged Lion was a symbol for PAX ROMANA. But then I google'd it for you and found out that it is the symbol of Saint Mark with his connection to one the four mystical creatures attending to God. (Ezekiel 1:10) The Latin saying on the open book that the Lion has his right paw on is "PAX TIBI, MARCE, EVANGELISTA MEUS" which translates "Peace be upon you, O ark, My Evangelist" Tradition has it that these were the words spoken to Mark by a Angel who greeted him when he stopped on the Island during his travels. |

Wow, the winged lion has more meaning than I thought. I like it even more.
I've never been to Piazza San Marco, let alone Italy. But thank you for the info! |

Kat, that is so cool! I'd love to see a picture.
I think I'm going to wait until Spring to get it. I'm psyched though! I wish I could get it RIGHT NOW, but since it is the day after Christmas I am broke. |

That's really pretty! Good choice on the blue. I think I would like a butterfly like that; it's so cute! |
