Hi everyone, it is just awesome to read so many positive things being done in communities. I've been a lifer volunteer... did AmeriCorp, back when Clinton was pres. smile.gif and enjoyed making a difference in so many peoples lives. After settling down and having two beautiful children life has been busy, but recently I came up with a new idea that makes me so excited. My husband and I moved from AZ to raise our girls (Seine & Libertie) in a smaller community in the midwest (St. Joseph, MO), and I was shocked that the city we live in has only one recycling programs for paper only. So, we are starting a door to door recycling service! We don't really have a lot of money, but we are determined and I am really hoping that people will jump on board! Hopefully we can make a big impact in our little town by making it a little more green!

no website yet.... they are way more expensive than i thought they would be, but then again i'm so uncomputer person i had no clue what they took to run anyways. i have a very savy friend who said she would help out, so i'm hoping she will have the extra time and energy to help! so far we are going to do postcards to the the local community... i'm so nerdo that i just drove up and down the high traffic areas and wrote down addresses! i guess they call that some grassroots! if anyone has any good ideas on how to get the community excited about it, please share your ideas! thanks!!

That's Awesome: What a great idea. There is a lot that can be recycled I watched a show that showed how they make cans it was so cool. They were saying it cost less to reuse a can than to make a new one, because to get the raw materials ready to go you have to go through more steps than using an already made can and recycling it.

Since we have a family of five and four pets we definitely are blessed to be in a community that is a green community!
I'm sorry to say we use so much our recycle bin is always full. At-least it will be reused. WTG> YOU ROCK cool.gif

we are two months out of the gate, and it has been crazy wonderful! We have 250ish clients, thats 250ish people not throwing all their garbage in the landfills! Hurray! Our goal is 750! Just wanted to update those who are excited about getting Americans to change mucho about the way we live, breath, and effect our environments! And also, one person can make such a big difference, if little ol' me can do it, so many more people can do it too. Maybe not recycling persay, but if there is something in your community bothering you..... you can do something it change it!

That's a great idea. Perhaps you can get your kid's school involved with recycling, or even designate the school as a drop off center. This way not only do you not have to go door to door, but you can also get the kids to be thinking about recycling! When I taught in the inner city, we had AmeriCorp people come in and teach our kids about the water cycle (6th Grade Science). I have a lot of admiration for you folks.

I wish you all the best!

Hey that's fantastic! And what a great example for you're kids, too.
Good for you!
