It's always been known that life isn't fair. Isn't it funny how there are Drew fans out there who get to meet her just by being in the right place at the right time and people who would love to but just may never get to. Here is a true Drew story of my own.
I have been a Drew Barrymore fan since the age of 12, (1986) when I first saw her in Firestarter. I have followed her career ever since then. I have seen everything she has done and have been a mighty big fan. I never dreamed I would ever get to meet Drew Barrymore because I am from Massachusetts, (3000 miles from where she resides). One day I thought I had the golden opportunity of a lifetime. She was coming to Massachusetts on February 8, 2001 to receive the Hasty Pudding Award after a parade. I felt if I was there I actually have a chance to get to meet her and get an autograph. After all these years of being such a big fan, why not? I was at the site of the parade at 10am. The parade didn't start until 2pm. I wanted to get close for some good pictures was all. Someone at the parade told me the parade ends at a resaurant close by and that's where she would be. She went inside for a private function so some friends and I waited. We waited and waited. People kept saying she'd be out soon which kept us there even longer. At 7pm, there were just 5 of us left out of thousands and we decided to give up. We saw a limo driver and asked him to tell her we waited as long as we did out in the freezing cold. The limo driver gave us some information that he said he wasn't supposed to give which was that he was bringing her back at 8pm, (1 hour). We decided to wait even longer. We went down to the ATM at the corner to warm up after 9 hours out in 30 degree weather. Around 8pm a limo approached and we tried to get out of the ATM booth but the door was stuck. We tried and tried and finally got it open. We chased the limo down the street like dogs chasing a firetruck. My friends got to top of the stairs of the restaurant where she was going as I ran anchor due to a leg injury. As Drew got out of the limo, I was like 20-30 feet away and got a clear view as there weren't many people there, just the 5 of us. One of the guys pointed at her as she climbed out of the limo and he let his Drew Barrymore balloon go. As he turned his back and yelled skyward at his balloon flying away, Drew walked right behind him and inside as we watched the door slam shut ending our 10 hour wait. We never got to meet her.
It took me long enough as I absolutely refused to see it, but I just watched 'My Date With Drew'. The story of a guy named Brian Herzlinger who rented a camcorder and filmed a documentary about his fascination with Drew and after much waiting and trying, met Drew Barrymore. I have to say I was pretty bummed out by the end of this movie.
I have been a long time fan and I think I paid my dues especially after the 10 hour wait in the freezing cold of winter. What Brian did, I cannot do as I am not in L.A. He had a helluva time getting to meet her and he lives in the same city as she does. What are the odds that it could happen to me? Drew Barrymore was quoted as saying, "If you don't take risks, you'll have a wasted soul". I pretty much thought I did take a risk that night of February 8, 2001. It didn't turn out as well for me as it did for Brian Herzlinger.
I am just a regular guy who is down to earth with a crush on Drew Barrymore like a lot of other guys. I tried and did what I could in my power for a chance to meet her and it didn't work. I am starting this topic wondering if anyone else has a story as exciting, (or as pathetically sad), as my own who would do whatever they could to meet Drew. I hear she is really good to her fans and something tells me if she knew we were out there waiting in the freezing cold for 10 hours, she would've acknowledged us. 7 years later, it still bothers me.

I should get to meet Drew because I look like John Barrymore and I once had a friend who's Dad named Barry used to dance to Saturday Night Fever in the basement.
